Approximately 7 weeks ago, my assistant walked into my office having just received the mail. She was reviewing a letter, without looking up at me, she said - we are the subject of an audit. My reply was something along the lines of "Ha Ha, you are kidding. Right!?" I reviewed the document, no she was not. I received a letter from the MREC (Missouri Real Estate Commission) advising me that Avenue Realty Company was randomly selected for an audit by the state of Missouri and it will be conducted in a few weeks.
Today, the long scheduled visit from the MREC arrived. This audit was a review of all the real estate activity Avenue Realty Company had conducted during the past year. Having never been the subject of an audit prior to this date, I did not know what to expect. Over the past 6 to 7 weeks I have been meticulously reviewing the company files by reviewing files for accuracy and conformity with the rules of the state.
Success! The review is complete. The attention given has paid off.
Oddly enough, I am grateful for the experience. Having the state officially examine your business & documents for accuracy/compliance is stuff made of nightmares. But upon completion, I feel confident about my actions, habits, and preparation. This is nothing I would request, but having experienced this review I am happy with the procedures I have in place.
